Hi Benedict, Alan,

In a recent episode, there was a discussion praising the flexibility and utility of standard unix tools, that concluded with what I’ll summarize as, “For data processing tasks, sometimes it is better, cheaper, faster to use these tools than specialized ones like hadoop, etc.”

My question is, what workload characteristics might cause you to consider one of these special solutions like hadoop instead of powering through with the shell? Do you have any stories about “a time when” that you could share?

Thanks for the always interesting show.
