Troels - Question about compressed ARC

Hi Allan and Benedict.
I have a regarding the compressed ARC feature of ZFS. I am aware that top will display how much compressed data is in RAM and the compression ratio. However, I have noticed that on machines with hardly any compression enabled (Only perhaps some log files that are small to begin with) it will say something like:

9507M Compressed, 18G Uncompressed, 1.98:1 Ratio

Maybe I am just misunderstanding what this means in the first place, but how can there be 9 GB of compressed data in RAM when there is not even 9 GB of compressed data on disk?

What am I missing here?

Best regards,
