Daily ZFS user and loving it. I often find myself in a situation where I would like to have a hybrid use pool, which could host both file storage (for containers or NFS), but also VM images. Typically, I create two pools, one fast with SSDs for the VMs, one slow with HDDs for the file storage. However, this causes a split in the two pools, meaning you have to handle free/used space in two pools instead of one, and you loose a lot of the benefits which ZFS provides in having a single pool. An ideal scneerario would be the ability to add both SSDs and HDDs to a pool, and instruct a given dataset to "prefer" one disk set over the other, but allow them to cross the boundries if space needs require. Does anything like this exist in ZFS, or is there something similar which could accomplish this goal, or is the best method using two pools?
